Disclaimer. No self respecting Extreme Sport Video would be complete without one. Ours is in plain English... Tools are dangerous. They cut flesh and bone as easily as they can cut wood. If you survive building the kayak, surfing is dangerous. You can hurt or kill yourself using your kayak. It’s not called an EXTREME Craft Project for nothing!
Tools and Materials List. (A brad nailer for 1/2" 18 gauge nails/brads is a must)
Introduction. . Watch the Surkyak shred these waves and get your heart thumping.
Cutting Diagram – Precut your 4 x 8 sheets and get ready for layout
Design and Layout. The video IS THE PLAN for the construction of a boat that will fit 6-foot paddlers with size 10 feet easily. . You’ll see us mark and layout key measurements for the sides and bottom of the kayak. We will show you how to keep your boat hull symetrical. With the knowledge from the video, you can make future boats shorter, longer, wider, or skinnier. Build a kayak for a specific break, surf condition, or contest!
Hull Construction. Watch and learn the tricks that let one person bend and assemble a light, strong, and dry hull.
Deck and Cockpit. The “duh” cockpit rim. Good looking, easy to build, light, strong, and dry! The part that every kayak builder dreads turns out to be a cakewalk.
Epoxy and Fiberglass. Covers the basic techniques you’ll need to know to complete the project. Watch how it’s done, and learn where to place reinforcing layers. Avoid common mistakes that can turn your pride and joy into the heavyweight contender.
Outfitting the Boat. Follow along as we measure and cut blocks of mini-cell foam to make a cockpit. This custom design will let you control the boat and hang in there and endure inevitable pounding you’ll receive when one of those big waves closes out on you.
Maiden Voyage. Watch the first launch. Pretty day but the waves are small. Good day to see how it rolls. We even throw in a hands only roll. We are able to get a hint that the design will be a winner.
Sea Trials - Crash Test Dummies. Just three days later the surf cooperates. Wrightsville Beach is "going off"! Phil Aschliman and Joey Hall and agree to be Crash Test Dummies for the new boat. They rip up the waves as they probe the performance limits. You’ll watch this again and again.
